((Hi. I haven't been here in awhile. Sorry I was gone but it doesn't look like I've missed much... But I'll try to start posting in here again, I just may be a bit slow.))
When the monster had come to the streets outside the tavern, Kane had slipped out and onto the rooftops. At first he had intended to help with his spears, but he watched the battle progress and saw that the others from the Bloody Rose tavern had it covered. He marvelled that there had been so many warriors in one place. He especially watched the dog-boy and the lady elf during the fight. He fled the scene around the same time as the one who had briefly identified himself as Jack, and on a whim, he had followed the boy out of the city and into the forests surrounding Faethaven. Unfortunately, he had lost the lad. Since he wasn't dead set on finding the boy, he shrugged away his lossed and decided to take a walk and think about all that had happened in the gathering dusk.
Wandering aimlessly (but nonetheless aware of his surrounding due to his time spent in the wilds), Kane thought about the city. It was a wild and dangerous place- but very different from the lands he had grown up in. He wasn't entirely sure that he liked the city, but he never considered leaving it since his brother had died helping him to find it. Faethaven was supposed to be a dream come true, but unfortunately for Kane it was a pain in the neck. Kane liked to firest quite a bit. He found the coolness under the trees quite enjoyable, and there was an abundance of game here. He almost wished that he'd chosen to build a home in the Outskirts, rather than aquiring his little hut in the slums of Faethaven's residencies.
As Kane wandered, he kept his eyes peeled for any tracks that might indicate food, danger, or maybe that strange little wolf boy that he'd seen in the tavern.

((Wow.... I guess I haven't been on much either... ^^;; ...Sorry?))
Jack
Jack had awoken only minutes ago, but had already started searching for food. He was groggy and as such made no real attempt to get meat in any form. He foraged for mushrooms and berries in the underbrush, sniffing the air for any other sources of food in the area. He was not being terribly cautious with hiding his location, but he wasn't making any undue ammounts of noise. He was still thinking about the large lizard and was contemplating looking for the eggs, hoping that they were alright and that the bruttish people who killed the eggs' parent weren't also searching for them as well. He hoped that the baby lizards were ok...

Kane paused when he heard the sound of something moving nearer to his location in the forest. He paused and listened carefully, to make sure he wasn't imagining things... whatever it was wasn't unduly loud. He wasn't too afraid. The Guard towers usually were able to stop extremely dangerous things from wandering in (they'd managed to catch him after all!). He heard another sound, and concluded the creature was moving closer to him, so he dodged behind a large tree. He crouched down in the underbrush around the tree- there were some sparse shrubs and tall ferns there, along with a thick covering of moss and fungus to stop him from breaking any branches. He pulled out a thin hunting javelin, in case it was something edible. He hoped that if it WAS an edible animal, it would not smell him, since the wind wasn't blowing in the most ideal direction. His scent wasn't being blown directly to the animal, at least.
He held his breath, and waited in silence.

Jack
Jack sniffed and rummaged around the forest floor for quite awhile, looking for food to scrounge up. "Mmm, mushrooms..." he said to himself as he picked another bunch and popped them in his mouth. He followed his nose until eventually he caught the scent. There was something in the area that didn't smell right. It smelt like something from the city almost... Normally Jack would cautiously search out an intruder like this, but in general, his stomach was bigger then his reasoning skills. He slowly made his way towards the smell while still gathering food. This put him unknowingly into the line of sight for the hiding Kane. Jack knew something was near, but made no real attempt to flush the tresspasser out as he was still too hungry to care.

Kane stopped himself from releasing his weapon just in time as he realized the creature, even though it was walking on four legs, was indeed human. A second later he realized it was Jack and quickly put the javelin away. Then very slowly he stood up, and cleared his throat. He didn't want to startle the skitish lad too much, so he made sure to make some noise as he moved.

((...Where is everyone? ))
Jack
Jack leapt a few feet of the ground at having been relatively snuck up on and turned to face that which had startled him. He growled a low growl while he did a quick search, but then he spotted what it was. It was the birdman who he saw in the city. He eyed the man carefully, the others he had seen in the city attacked the big lizard and maybe this one was no different, only coming after him instead. "What you want?" Jack asked, still crouching low on all fours, ready to leap away or defend himself if needed.

Kane decided to keep his words simple, so he wouldn't confuse the boy. He wasn't entirely sure himself what he wanted,so he was quiet for a bit. "I was looking around. I was thinking I might hunt. Maybe I was looking for you, a bit. Want to talk?" He asked.
He wasn't even sure what they two would speak of. A wild boy and a winged one... He hoped they might have conversation.

Jack
Jack eyed the bird-man carefully. He didn't usually like to talk to other humanoids much, generally preferring the animals' company more. "Talk about what?" he asked, still somewhat sketchy about the whole situation. Jack nervously began looking around for anyone else who might be hiding. A flicker of fear shot through him as he thought that this birdman might be trying to capture him. Suddenly every noise and movement from the nearby forest seemed to be someone moving in for the catch. "You... You trying to take Jack away?!" he asked, suddenly become very panic ridden and breathing heavily. "You want to put Jack in a cage don't you!?" he cried, backing himself up against a nearby tree, his eyes darting around the forest, but always coming back to rest on Kane.

Kane stared at the boy silently as he experianced his panic attack. Kane's expression was blank as he listened to the brief terrified rant.
"...No." Kane said when the boy paused. "I have no desire to put you in a cage." Kane felt a laugh welling up inside of him and surpressed it. He couldn't help but find it funy that Jack thought HE was going to be a jailer... considering the number of times Kane had found himslf in jail himself.
Suddenly realizing that although truthful, his words weren't very comforting to the young one Kane spoke again; "I just want to talk as though we were friends," Kane crooned gently, "Here in the forest where it is quiet and safe. I want to know what you are doing out here alone. Where are your parents, little one?"

Jack
Jack calmed down a little, but still was wary of the birdman's intentions. "Friends? Like the little birdies?" Jack questioned, but he didn't wait for an answer before responding to the other question. "Parents? What parents?" he said, "I alone, no other Jacks out here." Jack's jerky movements calmed down and he stopped reacting to every single noise and movement around him other then Kane's. He stared intently at the birdman now, trying to concentrate it seemed.

Kane fluffed his wings as he percieved himself as a 'little birdy'. He cocked his head to the side and laughed very slightly. Kane's laugh was wheezing and soft, and din't contain much humor. "Sure, like the birds." He had said in reply to Jack's comment, and then nodded as Jack confirmed what he thought about family. Kane sympathized with the child who had no family, though... Jck did't seem too sad for his lack. "You are very brave to live out here all alone," Kane told the child, "and very clever to do so well. Was today your first time in the city, or have you been there before?"

Jack
Jack practically puffed his chest out and grinned at the compliment of being brave. "Yes Jack very brave!" he said. The boy shook his head finally. "No, Jack been to big place lots of times. They have lots of food! But they get angry at Jack a lot so Jack don't like it there" he responded, his eyes now following a butterfly that was fluttering by.

"Maybe you just need to get used to it." Kane suggested halfheartedly. He paused for awhile, and tried to think of more that could be said. It occured to him that he was a fool, sitting in the woods talking to a wild boy. Why was he bothering? What did he hope to accomplish?
And yet, Kane did not wish to leave. Despite the evidence that the child was fairing very well on his own, Kane was loathe to leave someone so young to fend for himself. Kane knew what it was like to be alone in the wilds.
But the boy was not unhappy, and indeed said he didn't like the city. Kane had only watched the child for a short while at the Rose, but Kane knew that it was probably a lack of experiance with human interaction, a tendancy to jump at loud noises and sudden movements, that caused the child problems in the busy bustle of the city.
Though his initial words had been less than serious, after this brief moment's thought, he realized they were probably accurate. Probably.
"The city can be dangerous to walk alone," Kane warned the boy, "Sometimes even more dangerous than the woods. You should be very cautious when you enter there. Next time, you should find a friend to go with you."
"...do you have friends out here?"

Jack
Jack gave Kane a rather incredulous look and cocked his head to the side as though Kane had just asked the stupidest question ever. "Of course Jack has friends! " he said with a little laugh. "Don't you see all the other birdies and the rabbits and the lizards and the toadies and... and..." Jack tried to say all in one breath, running out of air towards the end and having to stop to breathe. "And the little buggies and all the other animals!" he finished with a nod and a deep breath. Jack grinned and bared his slightly fanged teeth out of fun before scratching his head with his foot.
